Fables
Terms of Service
EFFECTIVE DATE: 2026-06-28 · VERSION v1

Please read these Terms of Service carefully before using Fables. They are a binding agreement between you and D Iris Dev Studios. Together with our Privacy Policy, they govern your use of the app.

1. Acceptance of Terms

Welcome to Fables, a personal media tracker and social app for movies, series, anime, manga, games, books, travel, and events. Fables is operated by D Iris Dev Studios, an independent app studio based in India ("D Iris Dev Studios", "we", "us", or "our").

These Terms of Service (the "Terms") are a legally binding agreement between you and D Iris Dev Studios. They govern your access to and use of the Fables mobile app on Android (Google Play) and iOS (Apple App Store and TestFlight), together with all related features and services (collectively, the "Service").

To use the signed-in features of the Service, you must first affirmatively accept these Terms and our Privacy Policy. The app presents both documents (or conspicuous links to them) on an in-app acceptance screen and requires you to tap "I agree" before you can create or post any content. By tapping "I agree", you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms and by our Privacy Policy. We record the version you accepted and the date of acceptance. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

The Service requires you to accept the current version of these Terms before you can use its signed-in features, and you will be asked to accept again whenever we make material changes (see Changes to Terms). The current version is v1, with the effective date shown at the bottom of this document.

2. Eligibility and Age

Fables is a general-audience app and is not directed to children. To use the Service you must meet the following age requirements:

By using the Service, you confirm that you meet these age requirements. If you are under 18 in India, your parent or guardian is the contracting party under these Terms, accepts them on your behalf, is responsible for your use, and is solely responsible for any purchases. You also represent that you are competent to enter into a contract under applicable law (including Section 11 of the Indian Contract Act, 1872), that you are of sound mind, and that you are not disqualified from contracting.

The Service does not currently collect a date of birth, and our age checks rely on the information you provide. If we learn that a user is below the required age, or that a child is using the Service without the required parental or guardian consent, we may suspend or remove that account. We will update this section and our consent flows as the DPDP Act child-consent rules come into force.

3. Your Account

Guest mode. You can use Fables as a guest, without signing in. As a guest you browse and track titles locally on your device, with no public profile, no @username, and no access to social features (feed, friends, chat, and groups). Guest use is still subject to these Terms. You can create a full account at any time; doing so preserves the data already on your device.

You sign in to Fables using email, Google Sign-In, or Apple Sign-In through Firebase Authentication. When you create a full account, a profile is created for you that includes a display name, an email address, an optional @username (handle), and an optional profile photo.

You may optionally protect the app and your private notes with a device passcode, fingerprint, or Face ID, where supported.

4. Acceptable Use and Community Standards

There is ZERO tolerance for objectionable content and for abusive users on Fables. By using the Service, you agree to this zero-tolerance policy. Content or behaviour that violates these standards will be removed, and the responsible accounts may be suspended or permanently terminated and ejected from the Service.

You agree that you will not host, display, upload, publish, transmit, store, share, or otherwise make available any content (in posts, comments, chat messages, profile fields, group titles, poll questions and options, journal notes that you share, or anywhere else on the Service) that:

You also agree not to misuse the Service, including by attempting to access it through unauthorised means, scraping or harvesting data, circumventing rate limits or security measures, or interfering with other users' enjoyment of the Service. Friend requests are rate-limited and declined requests are subject to a cooldown; these are anti-spam measures and you agree not to work around them.

We reserve the right (but are not obligated) to monitor or pre-screen content, and we may remove or disable access to any content that we believe violates these standards, at our discretion and without prior notice.

5. Content Filtering

To help keep Fables safe, your submissions across all user-content surfaces (including posts, comments, chat messages, profile fields, group titles, poll questions and options, and shared journal notes) are subject to automated and/or manual filtering. The app applies a keyword filter to content you type and may block, refuse, or remove content that appears to violate our standards.

The content filter blocks certain objectionable words and phrases at submission time. The specific words are not disclosed, to prevent circumvention. The filter applies only when you submit content, not retroactively to content already published. If a submission is blocked, you may see a generic rejection message without the specific reason or the matched term.

This filtering is a technical safeguard and is not a substitute for the reporting and human review described below. It does not catch everything, and content that passes the filter is still subject to these Terms.

6. User Content and License

"User Content" means anything you create, upload, or share through the Service, such as your activity posts, comments, chat messages, group titles, polls, ratings, profile details, display name, username, and profile photo, as well as journal entries and notes that you choose to share.

You keep ownership of your User Content. You grant D Iris Dev Studios a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, reproduce, display, and transmit your User Content solely as needed to operate, provide, secure, and improve the Service, for example to show your activity in your mutual friends' feeds, to deliver your chat messages, and to render your profile. This licence ends when you delete the relevant content or your account, except for content already shared with others, copies retained for backup, security, or legal reasons, and abuse reports retained as described in these Terms.

You represent and warrant that you own or have all necessary rights to your User Content, that it does not violate Section 4 (Acceptable Use), and that it does not infringe the rights of any third party. You are solely responsible for your User Content.

Visibility. The Service uses a mutual-friends model: your activity posts, comments, and reactions are visible only to your mutual friends (friendship requires both people to accept), not to the general public. Your display name, username, and profile photo are shown to your friends in their activity feed (for example, "X watched [Title]") and in shared spaces such as Group Parties. Direct chats are one-to-one between friends. Group Party reactions, ratings, and poll votes are visible to all party members and are attributed to you. We reserve the right to remove any User Content as described in these Terms.

Denormalized snapshots. The display name, username, and profile photo shown on a post, comment, or Group Party activity are snapshots taken at the moment that content was created, and they will not update if you later change your profile. For example, if you post as "Alice" and later rename yourself to "Bob", that earlier post will still show "Alice" in your friends' feeds.

Trending and aggregates. Even if you mark an activity as hidden from your friends' feed, aggregated data about a title (such as how many people are watching or reading it) may still include your participation in non-identifying trending metrics and recommendations. If you do not want your activity to contribute to any cloud-stored data, do not record it in the Service.

7. Content Moderation, Reporting and Blocking

We provide tools so you can keep your experience safe.

Reporting. You can report any post, comment, profile, or chat message using the menu on that item. Reports let you choose a reason (spam, harassment, hate speech, sexual content, violence, self-harm, impersonation, or other) and add details. When you report content, we capture a snapshot of it at the time of the report (so it cannot be hidden by later edits or deletion) and alert our moderation team.

We act within 24 hours. We review reported or flagged objectionable content and act on it within 24 hours. Offending content is removed, and accounts that violate these Terms are suspended or permanently terminated and ejected from the Service. Reports are reviewed by people. We do not provide an in-app status update on the outcome of a report. Reports are confidential: the reported user is not told who reported them, and submitting false or malicious reports may itself lead to action against the reporter.

Blocking. You can block any user from the post, profile, or chat menu, and manage blocks from the Blocked Users settings screen. When you block someone, you cannot see each other's posts, comments, or messages, and any pending friend requests between you are cancelled. Blocking is a visibility filter applied for both people; it does not delete the other person's content for their other connections, and the blocked user is not told that you specifically blocked them.

Enforcement. We reserve the right to remove or disable any content and to suspend or permanently terminate the account of any user who posts objectionable content or abuses others, at our discretion and without prior notice, and in any event acting within 24 hours of a valid report. We also act on actual knowledge of unlawful content and on valid court orders or government notifications under applicable law.

8. Grievance Redressal (India)

Fables is an "intermediary" within the meaning of Section 2(1)(w) of the Information Technology Act, 2000, because it hosts content created by its users. In accordance with the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021, we have appointed a Grievance Officer for complaints about content or violations of these Terms.

Grievance Officer (IT Act and Intermediary Rules):

The Grievance Officer is your point of contact to report content or behaviour that violates these Terms or the law. You may also file a grievance through the in-app reporting tools described in Section 7.

Timelines. The Grievance Officer will acknowledge your complaint within 24 hours of receipt and will resolve it within 15 days. Where a complaint concerns content that is in the nature of non-consensual sexually explicit material, or impersonation including artificially morphed images, we will act to remove or disable access to it within 24 hours of receiving a complaint from or on behalf of the affected individual. We act on valid complaints, on actual knowledge, and on court orders or government notifications, and we may retain records of removed content where required by law.

9. Cooperation with Authorities and Intermediary Status

To maintain our status and protections as an intermediary, and to comply with Indian law, you acknowledge and agree that:

We will inform you at least once a year, and whenever we change these Terms, of these rules and of the consequences of not complying with them, which include removal of your content and termination of your access to the Service.

10. Subscriptions (Fables+)

Fables+ is our optional premium subscription. It removes ads and unlocks these features:

Plans and pricing. Fables+ is offered as a Monthly plan and an Annual plan. The Annual plan is offered at a lower effective rate (the app shows messaging such as "Save 16%"). The actual price, currency, and any taxes are shown to you in the app before you purchase, in your local currency as set by the store for your region. Prices are shown inclusive of applicable taxes (including GST in India) where the store presents them that way.

Billing is handled by the stores, not by us. All purchases are processed by the Apple App Store (on iOS) or the Google Play Store (on Android), through the RevenueCat SDK. We do not collect or process your payment details. Payment is charged to your Apple ID or Google account.

Auto-renewal. As shown on the purchase screen, subscriptions renew automatically. Cancel anytime. Your subscription renews at the end of each billing period (monthly or annual) at the then-current renewal price unless you cancel. The store charges your account for the renewal within 24 hours before the current period ends.

Managing and cancelling. You can turn off auto-renewal and manage or cancel your subscription only in your store account settings:

To avoid being charged for the next period, cancel at least 24 hours before the current period ends. If you cancel, you keep Fables+ access until the end of the period you already paid for. Deleting the app does not cancel your subscription. On iOS, if you start a paid subscription, any unused portion of a free trial is forfeited.

Free trial. We offer an optional 5-day free trial with full premium access (no ads). The trial is opt-in: you choose "Yes" or "No" on a welcome dialog, and you are not enrolled automatically. One trial is available per account. The trial opt-in window closes 24 hours after you create your account. If you do not opt in within this window, the free trial is no longer available; there is no way to access the trial after this deadline, and you must subscribe to get premium access. If you start as a guest, the trial and Fables+ are not available until you create a full account, at which point the 5-day trial becomes available.

Refunds. Because billing is handled by the stores, we do not issue refunds directly. Refund eligibility, timelines, and method are governed by Apple's and Google's policies, and you should request any refund through the store you purchased from. We do not provide partial-period refunds when you cancel, except where required by law or store policy. Nothing here limits any non-waivable refund or other rights you have under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019.

Price changes. We may change subscription prices. Where required, the store will notify you of a price change before it takes effect and, where applicable, ask for your consent before renewing at the new price.

For any billing or subscription complaint, you may contact our Consumer Grievance Officer (see Section 24) and may also approach consumer grievance forums under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019, in addition to the grievance channels described in these Terms.

11. Advertising

The free tier of Fables is supported by advertising delivered through Google AdMob. Free users may see:

Some optional actions for free users (such as exporting certain formats or performing a one-time manual cloud sync) can be unlocked by watching a rewarded ad, which proceeds the action once.

Subscribers (and users on an active free trial) do not see inline or interstitial ads. We do not serve personalized or interest-based advertising to users we know to be children, and any ads shown to such users are non-personalized. On iOS, we ask for your permission through Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt before any advertising identifier is used. Advertising is provided by Google and is subject to Google's terms and privacy practices.

12. Intellectual Property

The Service, including the Fables name, logo, app, software, design, themes, mascots, and all related content we create, is owned by D Iris Dev Studios or our licensors and is protected by intellectual property laws. We grant you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the app on devices you own or control, for your personal, non-commercial use, subject to these Terms. You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, reverse-engineer, or create derivative works from the Service except as permitted by law.

Catalog metadata such as titles, artwork, descriptions, ratings, place data, and event data is provided by third-party sources (see Third-Party Services) and belongs to those providers. It is made available to you as-is for your personal use within the app, and your use of it is subject to those providers' terms. All other trademarks are the property of their respective owners.

13. Third-Party Services

Fables relies on third-party services to function, and your use of the Service involves these providers:

Third-party content and services are provided as-is. We do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, availability, or licensing of third-party catalog data, and you should refer to the original source for authoritative information. Because we cache content, you may occasionally see information that is out of date or that the source has since changed or removed. Each third-party provider has its own terms and privacy policy, which govern your use of that provider's data and services.

14. Privacy and Data Protection

Your privacy matters to us. Our Privacy Policy explains what we collect and why, and it is incorporated into these Terms by reference. In summary, we collect and process your account information (name, email, username, photo), your User Content, your social graph (friends, blocks), device and push tokens (FCM), and analytics and crash data through the services listed above.

For users in India, D Iris Dev Studios is the "Data Fiduciary" under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023. We process your personal data on the basis of your consent (a free, specific, informed, unconditional, and unambiguous indication given through a clear affirmative action), or for certain legitimate uses and to comply with law as permitted under Section 7 of that Act, after giving you notice of what we collect and why. You can withdraw your consent as easily as you gave it.

As a Data Principal, you have the right to: access information about how we process your data; correct, complete, update, or erase your data; seek grievance redressal; and nominate another person to exercise your rights if you die or become incapacitated. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Data Protection Board of India. To exercise these rights or ask questions about how we handle your data, contact us at support@tryfables.com.

Retention. Most of your data is retained until you delete it or your account. Abuse reports (and references to your account within them) are retained for as long as necessary for repeat-offender review and safety, and are then deleted or de-identified, subject to any legal retention requirement. Certain records are retained as required by law, including registration information for up to 180 days after cancellation under the Intermediary Rules. You are responsible for providing accurate information and for not impersonating anyone.

15. Note Encryption Disclaimer

Note encryption is a Fables+ premium feature. When you enable it, your notes and journals are encrypted at rest using AES-256, with a key derived from a passphrase that you choose. The key is held in your device's secure storage; only a salt and a verification token (not your passphrase or key) are synced so you can unlock on another device.

Only you can decrypt your notes. We cannot recover them. Because the encryption is end-to-end, we do not have access to your passphrase or your encrypted content, even if you ask us. If you forget or lose your passphrase, your encrypted notes are permanently unrecoverable. There is no password reset, recovery code, or backdoor.

If you cancel Fables+ after enabling encryption, your existing encrypted notes remain accessible and you can still decrypt them with your passphrase, but you cannot set a new passphrase without an active subscription. Changing the passphrase is not supported while encrypted data exists.

Critical risk. If you cancel your subscription after enabling encryption and then lose or forget your passphrase, your encrypted notes are permanently and irreversibly lost. There is no recovery mechanism of any kind, and we cannot decrypt your data even if you ask us. Passphrase loss equals data loss. Please keep your passphrase safe and backed up.

16. Account Deletion

You can delete your account from within the app at any time, in Settings. Deletion is permanent and irreversible. It runs a cascade on our servers that removes your profile and its sub-collections, your activity posts and the comments under them, your comments on others' posts, your friend connections (in both directions) and friend requests, your chats and messages, groups you own and your membership in other groups, your likes and saves, your notifications, your username (which is released so others can claim it), and your profile image. Local app data on your device is wiped, and your username becomes available to others.

What is retained. Abuse reports that mention you, and references to your account within them, may be retained after your account is deleted for repeat-offender review and safety, and are then deleted or de-identified subject to any legal retention requirement. We also keep a minimal deletion audit record and any data we are legally required to retain (such as registration information for up to 180 days under the Intermediary Rules). Your data is not auto-exported before deletion, so export anything you want to keep (for example, the Full Backup ZIP) first.

Deletion completes asynchronously and may take some time, so please do not sign back in during that window. Deleting your account does not cancel your subscription. You must cancel any active Fables+ subscription separately in your Apple App Store or Google Play account settings.

17. Disclaimers (As-Is, No Warranty)

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory, except as expressly stated in these Terms or as required by applicable law, to the fullest extent permitted by law. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or free of harmful components, that defects will be corrected, or that any content or data (including third-party catalog data, AI-generated text, ratings, and metadata) is accurate, complete, or reliable.

You use the Service at your own risk. You are responsible for backing up your own data. We are not responsible for User Content created by other users, or for your interactions with other users. Nothing in these Terms excludes any warranty or liability that cannot be excluded under applicable law, including under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019.

18. Limitation of Liability

In this Section and in Sections 19 and 20, the "Fables Parties" means D Iris Dev Studios, its proprietor, and its contractors and service providers acting on its behalf.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Fables Parties will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits, goodwill, or revenue, arising out of or in connection with your use of (or inability to use) the Service, including any loss of encrypted notes due to a forgotten passphrase, any reliance on third-party content, or any conduct of other users.

To the extent any liability cannot be excluded, our total aggregate liability to you for all claims relating to the Service is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you paid us for Fables+ in the twelve months before the event giving rise to the claim, or (b) one thousand Indian Rupees (INR 1,000).

Nothing in this Section limits or excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, for gross negligence or wilful misconduct, or for any liability that cannot be limited or excluded under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019 or other applicable Indian law.

19. Indemnification

To the extent permitted by law, you agree to indemnify and hold harmless the Fables Parties from and against any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, costs, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or related to: your User Content; your use or misuse of the Service; your violation of these Terms or of any law; or your infringement of the rights of any third party. This does not apply to the extent the claim arises from our own breach of these Terms, negligence, or wilful misconduct.

We will notify you of any claim for which we seek indemnity, allow you to control its defence with counsel of your choice (subject to our approval, not to be unreasonably withheld), and not settle any claim in a way that imposes obligations on you without your consent.

20. Termination

You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service, in whole or in part, at our discretion and without prior notice, if you violate these Terms (including the Acceptable Use and Community Standards), if you post objectionable content or abuse other users, if required by law, or to protect the Service or other users.

On termination, your right to use the Service ends. Sections that by their nature should survive (including the User Content licence for content already shared, intellectual property, disclaimers, limitation of liability for the Fables Parties, indemnification, governing law, and these survival provisions) will survive. Termination of your account does not by itself cancel any active subscription, which you must cancel through your store as described in Section 10.

21. Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make changes, we will update the version and effective date below. For material changes, the app will ask you to accept the new version before you continue using its signed-in features (the in-app acceptance gate re-prompts when the version changes). Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms. We will also remind you of these Terms and the consequences of non-compliance at least once a year, as required for intermediaries in India. If you do not agree to the updated Terms, please stop using the Service and delete your account.

22. Governing Law and Jurisdiction

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of India, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. Subject to the rights of consumers to approach consumer forums having jurisdiction under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019, and to the grievance and consumer-redressal mechanisms described above, the competent courts in India will have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service, and you and we agree to submit to the personal jurisdiction of those courts. These Terms create a binding contract under the Indian Contract Act, 1872, supported by your access to the Service as consideration, and accepted by you when you tap "I agree".

23. General (Severability, Entire Agreement, Waiver, Assignment)

Severability. If any provision of these Terms is found to be invalid or unenforceable, that provision will be limited or removed to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions will stay in full force.

Entire Agreement. These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy and any in-app Community Guidelines, are the entire agreement between you and D Iris Dev Studios regarding the Service, and supersede any prior agreements on this subject.

Waiver. Our failure to enforce any provision is not a waiver of our right to do so later.

Assignment. You may not assign or transfer these Terms without our consent. We may assign them, for example in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets. We will give you notice of any assignment that materially affects your rights, and you may delete your account if you do not wish to continue.
